Do you want to be free?

When Jesus told his followers that the truth would set them free, he caused some confusion:  the followers thought they were already free – because they weren’t slaves.  But Jesus told them that everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

So if that’s the case, how can we ever be free?  Again, Jesus had the answer:  “… if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”  (John 8:36)

We can sometimes think the same way as Jesus’ early followers.  We’re not anyone’s slaves and we’re under grace, not under law.  But as Dylan (Bob, not Thomas) reminds us, “…you’re gonna have to serve somebody.  It might be the devil or it might be the Lord, but you’re gonna have to serve somebody”.

The difference is that in serving Jesus we can be set free from our slavery to sin and be given real freedom.  Freedom to have a relationship with God and to be accepted by Jesus as we are.

Octane 2010 is a time when we as men can stop to think about being free.  What does it mean to be free and what do we need to do to be free from the things that are tripping us up and stopping us living life the way it was meant to be lived?

Supported Charity

In keeping with our theme of “Free”, Octane 2010 will be supporting the International Justice Mission, a human rights agency that secures justice for victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression. IJM professionals work with local officials to rescue and care for victims, to prosecute perpetrators and to promote functioning public justice systems in developing countries.  Ten per cent of each ticket price will go to IJM and a collection for their work will be taken – come prepared to contribute.

Men's Ministry at The Street

Being a man is more than what you do; it is who you are. The Men’s Ministry is all about strengthening you as a man of God. Whatever the format, the desire is that you link up with other men in discipleship and encourage each other to be all that God has planned you to be. We run monthly events geared to putting guys in the same space for discipleship opportunities, service, and serious fun!
